Meetup event

Though we’ll be remote at least through the end of 2020, R-Ladies NYC doesn’t want to lose the magic of meetups, where we get to network, socialize, meet new people, and make connections. For our August meetup, we’ll be hosting a networking social event where we’ll utilize breakout rooms to allow participants to connect (or re-connect) with other members of our community in smaller groups. This event will be hosted over Zoom, and the link will be available on this Meetup page and sent to all attendees at noon on the day of the event.

Authors of “Build a Career in Data Science” Emily Robinson and Jacqueline Nolis will read selections from their book and discuss why they were meaningful and what thinking went into making it. In this session you’ll learn about some of the higher-level thinking that went into designing a book to help people excel in their data science careers, as well as hear stories from Emily and Jacqueline’s pasts that ended up shaping the narrative.

Our very own R-Ladies NYC board members Erin Grand and Kaelen Medeiros will give two short talks this month on leading R trainings for coworkers and flexdashboard! As New Yorkers do all we can to stay well in the times of coronavirus, all of our routines have changed. For some of us, this may mean more time devoted to strengthening our data skills. If this is you, here is a collection of resources that can get you up and running with learning a new skill in R. These were originally compiled for the R-Ladies NYC Code-llaboration Hangout back in January, and are organized by topic: Tidy Tuesday, Building a Package, Building a Website, Time Series Analysis and Everything Else.

We’ll kick off the year with a hands-on working session where we’ll work together on our own projects or tutorials. Come in curious about a subject or looking to make progress on a project you’re working on! We’ll divide ourselves into groups who’ll be working on similar topics, and we’ll have prompts and tutorials at hand for those who don’t have a particular project in mind. We believe that by collaborating with other R-Ladies who share your curiosity you’ll get much further than you would at home with google, and that even if you don’t have a set goal you’ll learn through sharing and receiving tips and tricks.

To close out 2019, we are thrilled to welcome Jenny Bryan for our R-Ladies New York end-of-year celebration and social!
